Yesterday I found the TurboSearch extension, the creator of which even could not change CSS styles in the extension when he grabbed mine and published from his name. So it pushed me to release the 0.3 version of my extension. The main change that was requested many times is to allow to remove predefined engines, finally it is possible now. Also it is possible now to select some text in the opened page and when you open the extension this text will be inserted in the search text box automatically!
Full list of modification you can always find http://code.google.com/p/chrome-quick-search/wiki/ChangesLog.

QuickSearch - v0.2 released
Finally I've released the new version of my extension. Now you can add your own search engines and edit them. Also some usability issues were resolved. More information about the extension and download page you can find at http://code.google.com/p/chrome-quick-search.
I also upload the extension to the official Google Extensions site, but it is inaccessible for downloads now, I think that they will open it when the official Chrome version begin support the extensions.

QuickSearch - my first Google Chrome Extension
Impressed by Google Developer Day 2009 conference I've finally found some free time, take my notebook and create my first extension for Chrome. I did not find any Chrome extension in the net with such functionality, but I think it should be useful not only for me. Especially when the extensions support will be included in the Chrome release, now it works only in dev build of Chromium. I've uploaded it to the Chrome Extensions site, you can find it here.
Also I've created a project on code.google.com.

Main purpose of it is to let the ability to use not only Goolge for quick search in the browser. As you know currently you can type search keywords in the address bar of the chrome and it will suggest you to search it in google. What if you want to search in Wikipedia? You should open the site first, then find the search input field and only then find what you wanted to find.
QuickSearch allows you to provide search on differents sites right from the browser without additional steps, just select search engine, type the keywords and press Enter, search results will be opened in the new tab of the browser.
Current version of QuickSearch is 0.1 and it supports the following engines: Wikipedia, Yahoo, Yandex, Amazon and of course Google.
Here it's screenshot, not very impressive, but it just works as expected and do what should do:

In future releases I plan to
- add some more engines "out of the box",
- ability to add own engines and configure it's order in the list,
- multi-search - search on different sites at a time
- autocompletions (where it is availaible)
Also I have some ideas about another extensions for Chrome.
QuickSearch - is just to check how it could be implemented.
